Headway Central Lancashire’s my story project enables clients to tell their own personal journey of rehabilitation after serious injury and illness.
My Story Paul Wilkins
Paul Wilkins struggled with epilepsy all through school. In 1983 he had an operation to control it, which was successful with regular medication assistance, but left him with cognitive disability for more than 15 years. He then went through what he describes as a ‘brain reactivation’, where he found a new ability to undertake self-rehabilitation and, with the support of organisations such as ours, began to see a big improvement in his condition. Over the years he’s become an all round creative writer and composer.
My Story Mark Herbert
After Mark started suffering seizures in 2020, he underwent tests and was diagnosed with a brain tumour, read his story below.
New My Story 2023/24
In support of My Story, we have received a generous donation in memory of late David Hewitt who was a valued volunteer of Headway Central Lancashire. David published his own story ‘The Journey that changed my life’ in 2020 and his family wanted to support others to do the same.
The process involves meeting with a staff member or volunteer and talking through their personal experience of recovery.
